5 Godly Ways To Overcome Suicidal Thoughts

How to Overcome Suicidal Thoughts? God's Way
Suicidal ideation, often known as suicidal thoughts, is the act of contemplating or planning suicide. It could be anything from making a detailed strategy to having a passing thought. The last act of suicide is not included.

Many people have suicidal thoughts, especially when they are under stress or are dealing with mental or physical health issues. Suicidal ideation is a symptom of a deeper issue. In many cases, treatment is helpful, but the first step is to seek help.

If a loved one is experiencing suicidal thoughts or discussing them, it is critical to intervene to aid and protect them. In the recent past, the statistics of suicides deaths among Christians are alarming. See the following Statistics according to continents

As Rick Warren's son Matthew's suicide draws greater attention to mental health, depression, and suicide, we can see that his case is far from unique. In the United States, someone commits suicide every 15 minutes. That translates to 35,000 suicides every year in the United States—and probably more, given how many suicides are camouflaged as accidents. Unfortunately, Christians commit suicide at nearly the same rate as non-Christians. Source:Christiantoday.com

Age 16–34 years     Age 55–74 years

Suicide rate (95% CI)

Roman Catholic       15.1 (13.2–17.2)               7.4 (5.7–9.7)

Protestant              10.1 (8.5–12.1)               8.0 (6.5– 9.8)

Conservative Christian 9.2 (5.8–14.6)               8.2 (4.6–14.4)

As you can see from the statistics, things aren't looking bright for Christians. But we know that God's love for us makes all the difference.
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life…shall separate us from the love of God.[Romans 8:37-38]

If you are a Christian who has had suicidal thoughts, I have some excellent news for you. God is the one who breathed life into your lifeless body and transformed you into a living soul because He desired for you to survive until He called you home at the appropriate moment.
Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.[Gen 2:7]

The psalmist noted this when he says [Your eyes saw my unformed body; all my days were written in Your book and ordained for me before one of them came to be.] Psalms 139:16]

You are not here as a result of some strange natural occurrence. God, your Creator, has approved of your presence on Earth. Every day that passes in front of you is a statement of God's acceptance of your existence. Even with all of your emotional and mental agony, Good's approval of you remains persistent and consistent.

Suicidal ideas are not from him, because in Jeremiah 29:11, He says that the thoughts He has for you are thoughts of good, welfare, and success.
[For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.]
No matter how dark it looks and seems if you can only lift up your eyes and look up unto hills, you will soon realize your help comes from there.

I will lift up my eyes to the hills [of Jerusalem]— From where shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber [briefly] nor sleep [soundly]. The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade on [Psalm 121:1-8 Amp]
Taking all of this advice into consideration, this is what you can do to fight suicidal thoughts.

01-Acknowledge You are a Human Being

You appeared on Earth as a human being rather than a human doing. Your identity, worth, and value are unrelated to what your parents accomplished to bring you into this world. In truth, your conception came second to your nature as a human being. You don't need anyone's permission to occupy the world if you have fundamental worth, value, and essence.

Your presence on Earth has been sanctioned in and by the sky, by God the Creator. Nobody, not even your closest companions, had any say in it. That is, their assessment of your worth, value, and significance is unimportant.

Accepting your identity as a human being and allowing this consciousness to flow to impact how you relate to yourself and others is the best thing you can do for yourself.

Depression makes people feel worthless and insignificant. Guilt, embarrassment, hopelessness, and feelings of insignificance are all common symptoms of major depression and other mood disorders.

However, when you consider the essence of a human person, you realize that your worth, value, and essence are inherent. As a result, you cannot utilize external comparisons or any other standard of measurement to affirm or reaffirm your worth. Begin today by accepting your human essence. Allow this essence to pervade all of your encounters with people who, above all, are of human essence.

Reflection: Looking at your life to date, how has the failure to accept your human being's essence affected you negatively?

02-Connect with Your Source.

You are just but a creature. You're not an end to yourself by all standards. You come from someone, you are a creature. And you have a Creator. So where is your source? Or who is your source? Because Every living thing has a source. And sustenance, life, and support are exclusively given to a human being by the Creator.

To connect with your source realize that you didn't just manifest in the physical space. The creator made you manifest. Someone decided that against all odds you will show up on earth. You are here for a purpose, and until you execute that purpose your death by any means would be a huge loss to this world.

Your divine purpose is packaged with solutions and challenges facing humanity. You were created for service. You have answers that no one has in this world. God did not create you in His image and likeness for nothing.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over all the earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.”So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them[Gen 1:26-27]
You carry the ability in you to function and operate like your Creator. That is the meaning of being made in his image and likeness. God operates by faith and love principle. Connecting with your source will empower you to flow from a space of faith, hope, and expectation no matter what.

Connected to your source? Faith will replace your fear, infuse hope for a better today than yesterday, a better tomorrow than today. Consequently, depression would not stay in a person flowing with love and faith. Love empowers you to see yourself as a giver than a receiver. The more you give from your abundance, the more you receive in return.

You are not alone when you are connected to your source. This is what God says when you go through various storms of life.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you go through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched; the flames will not set you ablaze.[Isaiah 43:2]

Right now if you are reading this and you are depressed, hope and strength are just a prayer away. Prayer is acknowledging your helplessness and accepting God's help in your life.

Reflection: What does being made in God's image and likeness empower you to overcome depression?

03-Understand Your Purpose.

You manifested in the physical space called because of a purpose. Because of a divine role and divine assignment you are a human being. Your purpose is to make use of your personality, gifts, and talents to serve other human beings. You have not been created to serve everyone. Your personality, gift, and talent mix carry hope, healing, and solutions to a particular group of human beings.

As you carry out your divine mission, you will feel a sense of contentment and satisfaction. Most persons who suffer from depression have feelings of failure, insignificance, and not being good enough. Every incident in your life will make you better rather than bitter as soon as you become aware of your divine mission.

Do you understand your heavenly mission? If you're unsure about your divine mission, I recommend reading Rick Warren's The Purpose-Driven Life. The first time I read this book, it opened my eyes and grounded me in purpose.

04-Understand your potential.

You have gifts and talents you have aptitudes. You have capabilities aligned to your purpose. So if let's say, you're called to serve children your gifting and your talent are tailor-made to enable you to connect, to communicate, and to relate with children.

You will thus find it so natural for you to connect with children because serving children is your purpose. You too have specific gifting entirely through which you can reach out and serve humanity.

I have come across friends who are so down to earth with children. It's so natural. There's no make-up of put-up. Their relations with children are an overflow from the abundance of child-friendly gifts and talents.

What about you, who are you called to serve? what gifts and talents do you have to enable you for that service?

You're not created to serve everyone. You have a specific group of people waiting for your manifestation. You have been designed wired emotionally, mentally, and spiritually to connect with and to serve.

Just like your purpose, your potential is a mystery you will not grasp using academic knowledge. Until you understand your potential you are likely to succumb to fear and the odds to hinder you from spending the potential in serving other human beings. For a deeper understanding of potential, I recommend "Understanding Your Potential by Myles Munroe. This book breaks down

Just identify those people, whether; children, mothers, or fathers. orphans, or widows. Lastly,

05-Understand Your Place

Your purpose and your assignment are to be executed in a particular physical location. You need to ensure you are in the right place, and at the right time because then you'll have the right people who will accept, honor and treasure, and receive your gifting in your talent.

Reflection: Is Your present physical location enabling you to pursue your purpose?
